My favourite thing about this book is that it is short and yet, it is packed with goodness. At the beginning of the year, to be able to sit down for an hour and read an entire book, it feels like you have accomplished something This little gem is only 80 pages. It reads easily while giving you some things to mull over.
The book is a letter to a friend offering suggestions on how to raise her daughter to be a feminist. The fifteen suggestions are really on how the mother (and all of us) need to behave in order to model for others, especially in raising young people.
Don't let the word feminist scare you. These are suggestions on how to treat one another, to be respectful, and how to overcome stereotypes and mindsets. They are for all men and women. Adichie's words hold up a mirror to who we are and how we act.
Both Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her friend acknowledge that this isn't easy, but aren't we all just called to try and do our best. Even if we did one of these suggestions better in 2020, the world would become a better place.
