In the Dark, Soft Earth by Frank Watson

Thank you to Plum White Press for a free e-ARC of In The Dark Soft Earth: Poetry of Love, Nature, Spirituality, and Dreams for an honest review. This is the first collection of poetry I've read by Frank Watson. This collection is divided into ten sections; each section emphasizing a new theme.

The collection as a whole reminded me of a Monet painting. I find Monet pieces to be welcoming, inviting, sometimes to discover an enchanted land or person. Lines are never crisp or defined. You know what you are looking at, but there is still a sense of mystery. I loved the use of paintings throughout the collection. The author has an obvious love for all types of art - paintings, music and poetry.

There was a section that was inspired by tarot cards and although I thought that concept interesting, and enjoyed the poems, it seemed to move away from the feel of the rest of the poems. To me, this could have been (perhaps a start to) another poetry collection.

Some of my favourite poems were Spirits, Jigsaw Theory, Heaven, Apparition, High Priestess and Hanged Man. If you enjoy poetry or you would like to give a poetry collection a try, this would be worth checking out.
