Life is better than death, I believe, if only because it is less boring, and because it has fresh peaches in it. - Alice Walker
The weather was perfect a few days ago (some might even say it was peachy) for a quick jaunt to Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario. Tourists from all over the world come to explore this little town that has an old time charm with 19th century buildings that house quaint shops, restaurants and bed and breakfasts. It is well known for the Shaw Festival, wineries and it is a convenient distance from Niagara Falls.
This past weekend they closed down a few blocks of the main street for the Peach Festival. Tourists and locals alike, enjoyed music, entertainment and the peaches were everywhere!
Peach slushies, peach daquiries, peach gelato, peach crumble, peach tart, peach pastries, peach salads, peach muffins, peach popsicles, and even peach pizza!
I had lunch at one of my favourite pubs in NOTL, The Irish Harp. Like many of the businesses in the area, their specials featured peaches! I had the peach pulled pork. It inspired me to buy some peach chutney from Greaves; I will keep you posted on what I come up with. After walking through all of the vendors, I finally chose the peach cobbler, cinnamon sugar chimney cake from the Budapest Bakeshop which was very good, not too heavy or sweet, but still felt decadent. After a lovely day it was decided that attendance will be mandatory next year.
