Life On The Ground Floor: Letters From The Edge of Emergency Medicine by Dr. James Maskalyk

Life On The Ground Floor is a memoir by Canadian Dr. James Maskalyk. Dr. Maskalyk is a doctor at Toronto, Ontario's St. Michael hospital.

In this memoir he talks about what happens in an ER, the ground floor is where all the action takes place. People are coming in for emergencies looking for care and often it’s a matter of life and death. Dr. Maskalyk not only shares stories from the hospital here in Canada but also about his work in Ethiopia.

The subtitle to the book is Letters from the Edge of Emergency Medicine. Each chapter begins with a letter of the alphabet from A - Z and each chapter is a reflection on medicine and Maskalyk's life. It’s an interesting approach.

He has another book that I’ve heard is quite good called Six Months In Sudan so I think that will be my next read by him.
